I’m almost done with a sci-fi novel titled Neuromancer by William Gibson. It won all the top sci-fi honors when it was published back in 1984 and I see why. Although it can be quite confusing, someone who has watched The Matrix will understand right away that The New Frontier is an almost physical manifestation of cyberspace itself. As a matter of fact, the correlation with The Matrix trilogy is so strong that there are several online discussions devoted to speculations that the idea actually came from William Gibson. The author, however, feels that the claim is false and the creators of The Matrix should be commended for their imaginations. So, if you enjoyed the inventiveness that The Matrix trilogy brought forth in film, and you don’t mind a challenging read, I would highly recommend Neuromancer and its sequels.

Read the Battle of the Books books! (See list on Bullardlibrary Blog) I am in the middle of Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli. The narrator is a young orphan in Warsaw, Poland, telling about the horrors of the Holocaust from his naive, young perspective. Milkweed won several awards and is available for checkout in Your Bullard Library!

I just read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. This is a great book about the intensity of female friendship and about the importance of context in writing. Lisa See(the author)is coming to Bullard and I am excited to meet her now. I also just read Chocolat by Jean Harris. This is a great book about a woman and her daughter and the evil she feels is after her. This is a good read for the chocolate lover. I just started Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Did you know that all three of these titles were given to me by Mrs. Dodds? She is great at picking what will interest you. She is like that lady in Chocolat who knows what everyones favorite candy is.

I am participating in the Battle of the Books. The best one so far was “Touching Spirit Bear” by Ben Mikaelsen. Don’t let the title throw you. It is a great book of adventure, soul searching, redemption and hope. I think everyone would enjoy this book because we have all experienced our own challenges and struggles in life.

I think the Bullard library is great and students here at bullard don’t take full advantages of the resources it provides. If student begin spending more time in the library it will more easily be able to update the computers, obtain more book and provide a better atmosphere for all student.

I’m about half-way through the book Mrs. Papulias mentioned, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. All I can say is that I can’t wait to take my 2nd period to meet the author, Lisa See, when she comes to Bullard on March 20th. This is a fantastic read!

Well, I like books that make you think, especially about politics and the future of mankind. Stuff like Earth Abides, and also stuff like 1984. Both books are excellent.

I love reading graphic novels but there are some, such as Y’s: the last man, that only have the first volume. It would be great if the whole set was there.

If you ever want a fun fantasy/sci-fi book to read, I suggest The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffery. It has always been a favorite read of mine and I hope that you enjoy it as well. As a graduated alumni of Bullard High(go Knights of ‘05!) I just want to congratulate the Library department for growing so much! Keep up the good work!
